The Nigerian Government is sending 200 young farmers to Israel and Morocco for a six-day intensive training on greenhouse and animal husbandry.
The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, National Land Development Authority, NALDA, Paul Ikonne, told the first batch at a ceremony in Abuja that 100 of the young farmers will be engaged in the process of learning proper crop production and greenhouse management, while another 100 will be engaged in animal husbandry, slaughtering and processing of meat.
To build a new generation of farmers that can effectively drive Nigeria’s agriculture, experts insist that
sacrifices must be made and monies spent.
These Israel and Morocco bound
young farmers to under study the Israeli and Morocco’s farming system,
are part of the ongoing presidential initiative on agriculture tagged, “National Young Farmers Scheme”.
The Executive Secretary and chief executive officer, national land development authority,
NALDA, said the young farmers selected from across the 36 states of the federation and the FCT will be integrated into NALDA farm programmes for sustainability upon their return and empowered by the Federal Government through the Central Bank of Nigeria.
