The Economic Sustainability Plan Committee set up by President Muhummadu Buhari to look at the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the budget and the economy has recommended mass Agricultural programme to create millions of direct and indirect job opportunities for Nigerians in the Post-COVID 19 era.

The Committee headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo submitted its report to President Buhari at the Presidential Villa Abuja on Thursday.

The Vice President in his remark said the Committee also recommended support for local production and manufacturing of all that is possible, including tech Apps, software amongst others with the required capital and machinery.

Osinbajo noted that the key to the success of the plan is implementation, hence the need to ensure synergy between all relevant stakeholders across the public and private sectors.

The Vice President thanked the President for the confidence reposed in members of the ESC saying if the proposals are taken as a whole and implemented conscientiously, Nigeria will avert the worst of the impeding economic headwinds and convert the crisis to a victory for the Nigerian economy.

President Buhari after receiving the report praised Nigerians for their resilience and adapting to the realities of Covid-19. He noted that the emergence of Coronavirus threw the entire world into serious economic crisis, thus making things difficult.

The Nigerian leader commended the job done by the Commitee that produced the Economic Sustainability Plan, saying the Committee’s recommendations can serve as a national plan to the country.
