The Nigerian government has set an ambitious goal to increase steel production from 1.2 million metric tonnes to 10 million metric tonnes by 2030, a move aimed at revitalizing the sector and driving economic growth.

Minister of Mines and Steel Development Shuaibu Abubakar announced this during a two-day working visit to National Steel Raw Materials Exploration Agency in Kaduna.

For over two decades, Nigeria’s steel sector has struggled despite the country’s vast reserves of raw materials.

Inadequate infrastructure, inconsistent policies, and funding constraints have hindered progress, leaving the industry underdeveloped.
