The Nigerian government says it is on track to producing 300 million rounds of ammunition annually to meet the needs of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, disclosed this during the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) end-of-year celebration in Kaduna.

In 2024, the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) commenced full-scale production, supplying ammunition across various theatres of operation.

This celebration marks a significant milestone in strengthening the capacity of the Nigerian Armed Forces to tackle evolving security challenges.

Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, highlighted the crucial synergy between Nigeria’s political, economic, and military sectors in advancing the nation’s strategic goal of overcoming security threats.

He emphasised that DICON’s achievements in 2024 have laid a strong foundation for Nigeria to emerge as a key player in the global defence industry.

The minister also noted that the recently enacted 2023 DICON Act, signed into law by President Bola Tinubu, has positioned DICON to enhance Nigeria’s defence capabilities and self-sufficiency in arms production.

The event featured cultural dance performances and awards ceremony recognizing outstanding staff contributions.
