Nigeria is leading the way in Africa, as the first country to domesticate the Africa Agribusiness Youth Strategy.
This is according to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari who was speaking at the First edition of the National AgriBusiness Strategy Youth Dialogue in Abuja.
With the target to empower 30% of youth and 30% of women in every food system value chain, Nigeria is set to breach the gap between men and women in Agriculture by 50%.
This is to harness the vibrancy and tenacity of youth, who represent over 70% of Nigeria’s population, a move by the government to reshape the sector for increased production, job and wealth creation.
For this purpose, Kyari, has called for robust mentorship and market access frameworks, that would foster strategic partnerships for young entrepreneurs to build viable and competitive agribusinesses.
According to him, Nigeria is building a sustainable, inclusive, and innovation-driven agriculture sector, with youth as drivers of the initiative.
With the theme: “Building Climate-Resilient and Finance-Enabled Pathways for Youth in Agrifood Systems in Nigeria”, the dialogue aims to integrate Sustainable Development Goals, the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme, CAADP and the African Agricultural Youth Strategy into National Agricultural Technology and Innovation Policy.
