Nigeria’s House of Representatives resumed plenary proceedings on Thursday and immediately went into closed door session to debate the controversial tax reform Bills.
After over two hours of what has been described as a heated debate, the doors of the Green Chamber were opened to the Media, after which the House Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu revealed that members have resolved to carry out wide consultations with plans to give room for inputs and suggestions from key stakeholders.
The Deputy Speaker also disclosed that resource persons will be invited to plenary next week Tuesday to enlighten lawmakers on the possible benefits of the proposed legislation to Nigeria’s economy and what every part of the country stands to gain from the tax reforms.

ait.live gathered from some lawmakers who preferred anonymity that the House leadership and members resolved to debate the Bills in Executive Session to allow for a robust engagement.
There are inductions that the Bills recently introduced by President Bola Tinubu is causing huge division among lawmakers and may be threatening the relative peace and cordial relationship enjoyed by the House leadership since the turn of the 10th Assembly.
