Nigeria is set to host two major African football events after President Bola Tinubu approved the country’s bid to stage the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly and the 2026 CAF Awards Ceremony.
The announcement was made during the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, following a meeting between President Tinubu and CAF President, Patrice Motsepe.
Also present at the meeting were Foreign Affairs Minister, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Nigeria Football Federation President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, former NFF President Amaju Pinnick, and CAF Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu.
The 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly, scheduled for October this year, will bring together presidents of CAF’s 54 member-associations, representatives of the six zonal unions, and top football administrators from across the continent.
Nigeria will also host the prestigious CAF Awards, an annual ceremony celebrating the best players, coaches, and football personalities in Africa.
The hosting rights further reinforce Nigeria’s growing influence and strategic role in the development of African football.
