Nigeria to secure $163m AfDB loan for wheat production in Kebbi, Jigawa States

Vice President Kashim Shettima says the Federal Government plans to secure a $163 million loan from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to support wheat production under an agro scheme that will be launched soon.

Vice President Shettima made this known on Sunday in Argungu, Kebbi State, while on a condolence visit to the family of the late Sheikh Abubakar Giro.

Shettima says 10,000 hectares of land are needed for the scheme in Kebbi State, while another 50,000 hectares would be be required to boost wheat production in Jigawa State, adding that President Tinubu remains committed to fulfilling his campaign promises to Nigerians

The Vice President described the death of the late Islamic scholar as a great loss to Kebbi State, Nigeria, and West Africa, saying the late Sheikh Abubakar Giro was a respected scholar who lived a humble life of service to God and humanity.

The Emir of Argungu, His Royal Highness Sumaila Mohammed, who received the Vice President at his palace, said the Emirate was proud of the achievements of the late Sheikh Giro. He prayed for the unity and progress of Nigeria, and he also thanked President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima for their support.

The National Leader of the Izala sect, Sheikh Bala Lau, who received the Vice President on behalf of the family in company with other national executives, thanked President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima for their show of love.

Earlier, on arrival, the Vice President was received at the Sir Ahmadu Bello Airport in Birnin Kebbi by the State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, who accompanied him on the visit.

Sheikh Abubakar Giro, a renowned cleric who died recently, has since been buried according to Islamic rites in his hometown in Argungu, Kebbi State.
