The Nigerian Air Force has significantly enhanced its capabilities to overcome challenges related to night-time operations and low-visibility conditions.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, announced this during the inauguration of the newly installed airfield light system at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Kaduna.
The Nigerian Air Force Base in Kaduna, a key stronghold since the Nigerian Civil War, serves major operational units of the Nigerian Air Force, including the Air Component of Operation Whirl Punch.
Previously, it was difficult to operate from this base at night due to the absence of an airfield light system, impeding night operations.
During the inauguration, Air Marshal Abubakar explained that the facility is a game changer, enhancing the safety standards and operational capabilities of the Nigerian Air Force.
Several pilots highlighted the significance of the new airfield light system for their operations.
Air Marshal Abubakar also inaugurated a Base Defence Coordination Centre and an Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Workshop to serve as a hub for integrating intelligence and anticipating threats.
The air chief assured that the Nigerian Air Force would continue upgrading facilities at its airfields to further enhance its operational capabilities.
