The Nigerian youth have been advised to abstain from drug abuse, cultism and criminal behaviour, as they are capable of mortgaging their future.
They were also urged to imbibe the virtues of honesty, integrity, sincerity, and patriotism, by shunning open defecation and maintaining a clean environment.
The call was made at a public speaking engagement, as part of activities to mark the Nigerian Army Day celebration, where the army informed secondary school students of its operations, and nurtured their desire to join the Nigerian Army in the future.
The senior officers emphasised the need for the students to exhibit respect for elders, and keep good companies that can influence them to promote national security and peace in their communities.
They identified substance abuse as one of the factors responsible for banditry and the kidnapping bedevilling Zamfara State and called on the students to contribute to building a secure country, by refraining from drug abuse.
The Commander of One Brigade of the Nigerian Army, in Gusau, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, who was represented by the Garrison Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Kolawole Elero, at the Army Public Speaking Engagement, restated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to restoring security and order in Zamfara State.
He said the purpose of the public speaking engagement was to project the Nigerian Army image positively to students, to influence their perceptions, opinions, attitudes and behaviours, towards the Nigerian Army, and to enlighten them on the career opportunities open to them.
