The Nigerian Army says continuous training of its personnel remains a key component of its welfare and professional development.
The General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Abubakar Wase, stated this during the Inter-Brigade Combat Proficiency Competition for junior and middle-ranking officers held at the headquarters of 3 Brigade in Kano.
From the rank of Second Lieutenant to Major, officers drawn from 1 Division Headquarters, Kaduna; 31 Artillery Brigade, Minna; and 3 Brigade, Kano, took part in the three-day intensive competition.
The officers competed in weapon-handling proficiency, map reading, endurance running, obstacle crossing and combat swimming.
At the event, two female officers from 3, brigade Kano, also distinguished themselves, emerging winners in the arms-handling and swimming events.
The General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Major General Abubakar Wase, described the competition as a training and welfare initiative designed to keep officers physically and professionally.
The initiative, aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s “Soldiers First” agenda, aimed at meeting the professional needs of personnel and preparing them for emerging security challenges.

The Special Guest of Honour, the Commandant of the Nigerian Navy Logistics College, said the competition provides an opportunity for the participating brigades to strengthen unity and keep them ready for combat operations.
3 Brigade, Kano, emerged overall winner of the competition, scoring 565.5 points and receiving four trophies.
The Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Saka Jimoh, urged bandits and other criminal elements operating within the brigade’s area of responsibility to abandon their activities or face the full force of the law.
