The National Assembly Joint Committee on Army has approved the over 1.5 trillion naira budget proposal of the Nigerian Army, promising to ensure timely release of the appropriated funds to enable the force deliver on the terms of the security emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua and his House of Representatives counterpart, Aminu Balele, made this known while addressing the media after an executive session with the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu
The committee chairmen described the performance of the Nigerian Army in the 2025 fiscal year as satisfactory, noting that the challenges highlighted by the
Army Chief, especially the delay in release of appropriated funds by the ministry of Finance will be addressed by the legislature.
Senator Yar’Adua, in his remarks, maintained that adequate funding of the Nigerian Army remains critical to the fight against insurgency, assuring the Army Chief that the National Assembly is committed to collaborating with the force towards ensuring that he succeeds.
On his part, Chairman of the House Committee on Army, Aminu Balele commended the Chief of Army Staff, his officers and men for their patriotism and commitment in the fight against insurgency and protection of the nation’s territorial integrity.
He promised that the committee will continue its oversight function with utmost responsibility while pushing for reforms that will enable the Nigerian Army carry out its constitutional responsibilities effectively
