The Nigerian Army says it has neutralised over 60 terrorists, including key commanders, during a night operation in Mallam Fatori, Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to the Army, the attack occurred in the early hours of March 18, 2026, when insurgents suspected to be Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters advanced on foot from the Duguri axis, reportedly supported by armed drones.
Troops of the 68 Battalion detected the movement and responded with coordinated ground and air operations, repelling the assault with overwhelming firepower.
The military says the insurgents were forced to retreat towards the Arege area after sustaining heavy casualties.
Follow-up exploitation operations are ongoing, with surveillance platforms tracking fleeing fighters to prevent regrouping.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustained offensives against terrorist groups and the protection of lives and property.
The development comes less than 72 hours after deadly explosions in Maiduguri, which left about 23 people dead and over 100 injured.
