The Commandant of the Nigerian Defence College, Real Admiral Ahmed Abdullahi says the Nigerian army is willing to work with security operatives from other African countries to nip in the bud the security threats facing the continent.
The Commandant made this known when he played host to the Chief Of South African Army Lieutenant general Lawrence Mbatha in his office in Abuja, Nigeria
The historical relationship between Nigeria and South Africa has been a complex mix of strong solidarity, economic partnership, and periodic tension.
While Nigeria was a key supporter of the anti-apartheid movement, providing funds, training to freedom fighters, the post-apartheid in 1994, saw the ties being challenged by xenophobic violence in South Africa and competition for regional influence.
Despite this past history, the two countries are moving beyond these differences to form a new joint security force capable of handling the emerging security threats within the continent.
The two security chiefs said time has come for African countries to tackle African problems using indigenous solutions
The visit of the Chief Of South Africa Army to Nigeria is expected to build stronger foundation for collaboration in key areas of training, manpower development and intelligence gathering.
