The Nigerian Army says the recent attacks on its personnel as painful as they are, do not in any way discourage it from carrying out its constitutional responsibility, and assured to continually engage in periodic training of officers and men to meet contemporary security challenges.
The General Officer Commanding, 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Mayirenso Saraso said this at the opening ceremony of the 2024, 1 Division Inter-brigade Corporal and below competition, held at the 3 Brigade in Kano, North West Nigeria.
Soldiers in the rank of Corporal and below drawn from 1 Division Garrison in Kaduna, the 31 Artillery Brigade in Minna and the host, 3 Brigade in Kano, converged on Kano for various competitive activities in line with the Military tradition.
Represented by the Commander, 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Kano, Brigadier General Musa Sadiq, the GOC 1 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Mayirenso Saraso explained the essence of the competition.
On the recent attacks against the myilitary in some parts of the country, the GOC said the officers and men remain gallant, but developing new tactical strategies to deal with the enemies.
To win the fight against insurgency, the Military authorities note that information sharing with the civilian public is key.
The event which is expected to end on Thursday this week, has competitive activities such as shooting, combat swimming, weapon handling, drilling, physical fitness and obstacle crossing.
