Reprieve has come to the people of Okuama in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta state as Nigerian Military withdraw its troops after months of occupying their community as a result of the killing of four military officers and thirteen soldiers in Okuama community.
The governor of Delta state Sheriff Oborevwori who gave this cheering news at a media briefing at Government House Asaba said with the new development, the people of Okuama can now safely return to their homes and begin the process of reintegration and rebuilding their homes.
Governor Oborevwori said the withdrawal of troops from the troubled Okuama community was as a result of many deliberations and collaborations between the state government and the military hierarchy.
The governor assured Deltans and residents in the state of his government’s commitment to improve on the peace and security in the state as enshrined in his administration’s MORE Agenda
Governor Oborevwori who recalled his visit for on the spot assessment of the community after the killings which led to the setting up of a camp for the displaced Okuama people in Ewu prayed that such calamity will not befall the state again
He extended his profound gratitude to the President, the Chief of Army Staff, the Nigerian Army for their understanding and cooperation including members of the National Assembly who stood with the state throughout the trying period.
He further commiserated with the families of victims of the Okuama incident.
