A cross-section of the Nigerian children has frowned and described the continuous captivity of the 150 students of the Islamiya school in the Niger States by kidnappers, as the biggest threat to education in Africa, apart from poverty, corruption, and unemployment.

They therefore called for the immediate unconditional release of these children to their respective parents.

It was also declared as sad that, children are distracted by the bitting economic and security issues.

A situation made further worse with about 13 states yet to domesticate the Child Rights Act.

The Day of the African Child has been celebrated on June 16 every year since 1991, when it was first initiated by the Organisation of African Unity, OAU, now the African Union in honour of those children who participated in the Soweto Uprising in 1976.
