Nigeria’s Civil Society Organizations on Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, UNITAR in Geneva, Switzerland to facilitate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, Climate Change Financing and Environment protection.
While signing the MoU in Geneva, the Director General of the CSCHEI, Kunle Yusuff said the Initiative is a coordinating platform that supervises, organises, mobilises and promotes Civil Society Community Based and faith-based organisations within the scope of social development, community enhancement and humanitarianism.
He further emphasized that the working documents of CSCHEI align completely with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Agenda 2030.
Director of Peace Division, UNITAR, Evariste Karambizi highlighted the fact that this is the first time UNITAR is signing a partnership agreement and MoU with Civil Society Organizations coordinating platforms in Nigeria and expressed hope that the working relationships will be of advantage to Government, Civil Society Organizations, Non- Governmental Organizations and other relevant stakeholders.
Olivet Vandam, Senior manager representing United Nations Satellite Centre, confirmed that the agreement and MoU also covers their mandate.
Amb. Lawrence Boms, while responding, assured the UNITAR management that the partnership and MoU agreement will be taken seriously, most especially when the world is according priority to Climate Change and Action Advocacy.
All parties were unanimous in expressing hope that the MoU will open access to intervention grants on SDGs as well as climate projects and programmes financing.
