The Nigerian military says the burning of vessels with stolen crude is in line with existing laws associated with oil theft.

This is coming a few days after the House of Representatives faulted security agencies’ action of burning intercepted vessels.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja during its biweekly briefing on operations conducted across the country, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, reiterated that the military only carries out its operations according to the laws of the country.

In another development, the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, clarified that the recent retirement of senior officers is also in line with the rules of hierarchy in the force.

Combat operations across the country within the last two weeks led to the deaths of thirty-eight criminals, the arrest of one hundred and seventy-nine, and the rescue of forty-two abducted victims.
