The Nigerian Naval War College in Calabar has commenced Naval Warfare Course 10, a high-level training programme aimed at preparing senior officers for the realities of contemporary maritime and joint operations.
The Course was declared open in Calabar, with the Commandant, Rear Admiral Mohammed Muye, stressing that the College is repositioning to produce commanders capable of leading effectively in complex operational environments.
It is an inaugural lecture of the Course 10 at the Nigeria Naval War College in Calabar, Cross River State, with top ranking military officers from across the services, and other security agencies in attendance.
Attention has turned to the future of warfare and command, as the Naval Warfare Course 10 gets underway, focusing on Artificial intelligence, AI, and the command complexities of joint operations in an era of rapidly evolving security threats.
The opening ceremony has set the tone with the presence of senior officers and strategic-level commanders, reflecting the importance attached to the training programme in the nation’s defence architecture.
The Commandant of the College, Rear Admiral Mohammed Muye, says the Course 10, goes beyond routine training.
The inaugural lecture was delivered by the National Coordinator, National Counter Terrorism Center, Major General Adamu Laka, who was represented by the Director Intelligence, National Counter Terrorism Center, Brigadier General Peter Gbor, who speaks on the application of Artificial Intelligence, AI, in modern military operations, as he identified gaps in infrastructure, funding and skilled manpower as key challenges to the effective deployment of emerging technologies.
A total of thirty-four officers are enrolled on the Naval Warfare Course 10, including four from Cameroon, Ghana and Liberia, with a female officer from Cameroon making history as the first international woman to undergo the programme at the College, underscoring the institution’s growing regional relevance in professional military training.
