To enhance maritime security and combat crimes along the busy Calabar waterways, the Nigerian Navy has expanded its fleet with the addition of a new gunboat.
The gunboat was officially handed over to the Nigerian Navy at the Abito Jetty, Marina Base in Calabar, with representatives of the Chief of the Naval Staff and the Cross River State Government in attendance.
The state-of-the-art Gunboat, equipped with advanced navigation, communication, and digital weapon systems, was donated by a key maritime security stakeholder to support ongoing efforts in securing Nigeria’s maritime domain.

Speaking at the event, the Chief of Naval Staff, represented by the Commander of NNS Victory, Commodore A. Oride, emphasized the strategic importance of maritime security to both National and State economy.
He noted that the Navy’s operations against oil theft, piracy, sea robbery, and kidnapping would be further strengthened with this addition.
The donation highlights the positive impact of the Cross River State Civil-Military partnership, enhancing maritime patrols, surveillance, counter-piracy, anti-smuggling efforts, and search-and-rescue operations.
