The Nigerian Government says it has contacted the Ukrainian authorities over a quick evacuation of hundreds of Nigerians stranded at the Sumy State University, located in the NorthEast.

In a tweet from his verified handle, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama said he spoke to his Ukrainian counterpart, Dymitro Kuleba, over the situation.

This is as over four hundred Nigerians schooling in Ukraine have been brought to the country- having fled to Poland, Romania and Hungary, following the invasion by the Russian military.

In a Save-our-Soul viral video to the Nigerian authorities, dozens of the Nigerian students at Sumy State University, who converged near a section of the university campus in freezing temperatures, took turns to lament the suffering since the war began.

They criticized the Nigerian Mission in Ukraine for what they termed, abandonment and neglect, even as they insisted that their campus was being shelled resulting in power cuts, and water supply challenges.

The war is in its twelfth day, with ceasefire in the southern city of Mariupol not observed.

Ukraine has accused Russia of not allowing civilians leave the besieged city, a claim Russia denies.
