Nigerian troops on high alert ahead of Yuletide – DHQ

Troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces have been placed on high alert and have increased readiness to protect the country from further terrorist aggression, particularly during the yuletide.

A statement by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major-General Edward Buba says to guarantee that there is no terrorist incident during the holidays, robust operations targeted at terrorist leadership are being conducted across the various theatres of operations.

Consequently, troops have killed 212 terrorists and arrested 272 criminals as they rescue 152 kidnapped hostages within the last one week. This includes the recovery of 247 assorted weapons and 6,174 assorted ammunition.

Significantly, high profile terrorists identified as Hamisu Sale (aka Master) and Abubakar Muhammad were arrested during separate operations conducted in the North-Central Theatre of Operations.

Another high profile and notorious terrorist identified as Bako Wurgi was arrested in the North-West Theatre of Operations. The terror leader provided valuable intelligence to support troops operations before he died. Wurgi is linked to the murder of the Sokoto Monarch and was a staunch ally of wanted high profile terrorist Bello Turji.

Meanwhile, there has been arrest of 45 perpetrators of oil theft in the South-South, denying the oil thieves an estimated sum of N1.1 billion.

Troops in the Niger-Delta region also discovered and destroyed 35 crude oil cooking ovens, 27 dugout pits, 35 boats, 51 storage tanks and 61 illegal refining sites.
