In a significant milestone for Nigeria’s energy sector, Ademola Adeyemi-Bero has been confirmed as the country’s OPEC Governor for 2025 and appointed Chairman of the OPEC Board of Governors for the same year.

This prestigious appointment was confirmed at the 189th meeting of the OPEC Conference, underscores Nigeria’s influential presence within the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC and its commitment to shaping global energy policies.

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, praised Adeyemi-Bero’s elevation, stating that it reflects the country’s active contributions to the global oil industry.

The Minister in a statement issued on Tuesday emphasised that this appointment provides Nigeria with a vital platform to advocate for balanced energy policies that benefit oil producers, consumers, and the global economy.

The OPEC Conference also extended the tenure of Haitham Al Ghais as OPEC Secretary General for another three years, effective August 1, 2025.

Additionally, Governor of Saudi Arabia for OPEC, Adeeb Al-Aama, was appointed Alternate Chairman of the Board of Governors for 2025.

Adeyemi-Bero’s appointment is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the country’s energy policies and advocating for its interests within OPEC.
