The wife of Nigeria’s President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has empowered 50 women and the Young Farmers School Club in Zamfara State with farm tools, under her Renewed Hope Initiative, tagged, “Every Home A Garden.”
The tools were handed over to the beneficiaries by the wife of the Zamfara State governor, Hurriya Lawal, who represented the Nigerian First lady at an event held at the Government House in Gusau, the State capital.
The “Every Home a Garden” is an economic and family sustainability empowerment programme under the Renewed Hope Initiative of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
It is to remind Nigerians, especially women, that the fight against hunger and poverty, starts in their backyards; hence, cultivating small gardens at home can help to feed their families, support communities and generate income through surplus produce.
Speaking through the wife of the Zamfara State Governor, Hurriya Lawal, Mrs. Tinubu said the initiative is not only about planting crops, but about planting hope, building resilience and ensuring food security for all.
She urged women in Zamfara State to take this initiative seriously, learn from it and pass it on to their daughters and sisters.
In a similar vein, the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, equally empowered young farmers and schoolchildren with farm implements and N100,000 cash, as well as taught them how to plant trees and crops.
The Zamfara State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Wadatau Madawaki, said the initiative is aimed at reviving the Young Farmers Club in schools, with 8 schools to serve as pilots in Zamfara. She believes it will ensure food security for all.
The farm tools distributed include; wheelbarrows, pumping machines, fertilisers and chemicals, among others.
