One of Nigeria’s major opposition political party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has kicked off its membership registration exercise on both manual and online, through its newly inaugurated Committee to oversee the distribution of the interim cards based on demands from the public.
The event which was chaired by the national chairman, Senator David Mark in Abuja, is targeting about 1.8million members across Nigeria with 50,000 from each State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Mark said the issuance of the registration cards will be strictly regulated to lay the needed foundation for members to abide by the rules and regulations of the Party and to build a strong party that can defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
The National Secretary of the Party, Rauf Aregbesola noted that ADC will resist the temptation of bloating membership figures to avoid a token register propped up by a weak structure with impressive paper figures, powerless in practice to win elections through deception.
The chairperson of the newly inaugurated Committee, Imam Ibrahim and his deputy, Aisha Yusufu said the registration cards were already printed before developing a web.app. For easy access, noting that the
Party belongs to all Nigerians particularly those who have given up on the nation’s electoral system.
The Committee further declared that its priority is not just to win the election in 2027, but to hold the ADC’s leadership accountable for credibility and transparency in the affairs of the Party’s activities, that will serve as a litmus test before the Party seeks elections into various political offices.
