Nigeria’s House of Representatives is to investigate the quality and quantity of arms and ammunitions purchased in the last ten years by the Nigerian Army, Navy, Airforce, the Police force and other paramilitary services.
The lawmakers asked the Federal Government to take a critical look into how the military and paramilitary services control the use of weapons from their armoury.
The lawmakers noted that lack of control of the nation’s armoury has resulted in the recklessness in the use of weapons by military personnel, and the possibility that the arms and ammunition purchased by the state, end up in the hands of criminals.
The lawmakers say, the huge amount of money appropriated for the security agencies have not met the security demands of the country.
