Nigeria has signed the Doha Amendment to the Kyoto Protocol of 1997 to tackle the challenges of global warming, Minister of Environment, Muhammad Mahmood who made this known to newsmen at a briefing in Kaduna, North-West Nigeria said President Buhari signed the international instrument on behalf of Nigeria.
The Kyoto Protocol of 1997 which was amended in Doha in 2012 under the United Nations Framework on Convention on Climate Change comes up with an agreement that out of 192 nations 144 must ratify it before it comes into force, but if not signed by October 2, 2020, the protocol will collapse.

Mahmood said Nigeria is the champion of climate change for making the Protocol a reality on the last day of the dateline.
The Environment Minister also said that the essence of the Protocol is to address the current environmental challenges affecting Nigeria and the rest of the world for the good of all. He said the government will enforce the law on those buildings on waterways causing flooding, erosion, and other related environmental hazards.
