Retired employees of the defunct NITEL-MTEL under the Defined Benefits Scheme, DBS are demanding payment of 35 months pension arrears, among other entitlements.
Organised under the Progressive NITEL-MTEL Pensioners Forum, the retirees also lamented prolonged neglect and exclusion from critical Federal Pension entitlements, like the minimum pensions and wage award equivalent for pensioners.
The retirees under the defunct NITEL and Mtel, became pensioners earlier than they expected following the collapse of the Government-owned Corporation they worked with for years.
The pensioners
are experiencing a plethora of issues, significant hardship, and struggling with unpaid pension arrears, palliatives, and increments.
Specifically, they are seeking payment of 35 months of pension arrears, N32,000 in arrears, and a 20% increment, all while facing economic hardship.
They are also demanding the N32,000 palliative promised by President Bola Tinubu while workers get N35,000 wage award.
After several protests to demad payment of their benefits, a reply to their letter from the Federal Ministry of Finance appears to be deepening their woes.
While they seek intervention from the president, the National Assembly, and PTAD, they are also appealing to good spirited Nigerians to join hands in persuading the Government to attend to their plight.
