Education in Nigeria is not only threatened by insurgents and bandits, but by government’s continued negligence of the the sector from the basic to tertiary levels.
This is according to the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero at the 2025 NLC harmattan school programme.
Ajaero’s comments were further buttressed by the Presidents of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Chris Piwuna and that of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Titus Audu, who described the current spate of attacks on schools as embarrassing.

The ASUU President used the opportunity to explain why it delayed the much publicised return to its suspended industrial action and gave tentative timeliness for action should talks with government’s negotiating team fail.
The theme of the NLC 2025 Harmattan school is: “Workers Rights in the Context of Global Economic Crisis and Technological Advancement.”
