The Organised Labour in Nigeria says the National industrial court has served summons on the leadership of the NLC and TUC to answer to contempt of court charges despite the provisions of the constitution to the contrary and the objective realities.

In a communique issued at the end of its emergency National executive council meeting, organised labour resolved to go on strike across the country any day labour leaders are summoned to Court by the government through the National industrial court.

Organised Labour used the communique to demand for the immediate withdrawal of what it calls “litigious terrorism” by the Federal Ministry of Justice before the end of work Friday, August 11, 2023

Labour says it will embark on a nationwide comprehensive strike beginning from Monday, August 14, 2023, if the contemptuous Court summons are not withdrawn by whosoever initiated it.

While commending the national leadership and all the state officers for the effective coordination of the Protest, it urged all affiliates and State Councils including Civil society allies to stay further action but to remain focused and eternall vigilant for Resumption anytime.

Labour Says it is committed to maintaining the required vigilance needed to hold government accountable on its assurances and governance in general, while also committing to the terminal date of August 19, 2023, within which the issues around the Petroleum price hike will be agreed, according to assurances given by the President and the National Assembly.

The Federal Ministry of Justice has summoned Organised Labour for comtempt of court following its nationwide protest on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.

But Lawyer to Organised Labour, Femi Falana had said consistently that Court did not stop protests, but strike.
