The Nigeria Labour Congres, NLC says it shall resist any attempt to criminalise its hard-earned right to peaceful protest against what it describes as the “ills” perpetrated by operators of the Nigeria state.

The NLC said in line with its protest tradition, it makes bold to state that it has the capacity and the will to protest peacefully against wrongs by the government when necessary.

It, however, urged Nigerians to protest within the ambit of the law when they feel short-changed.

The NLC President, Joe Ajaero in an Easter Message, equally told Nigerian leaders at various levels of leadership, who according to him, have brought upon the people pain, deprivation and acrimony, to not treat the virtues of Jesus Christ as platitudes, but core values for healing, rebuilding, and repositioning of the country.

The NLC says the death of Jesus Christ on the Cross, marked by the commemoration of Easter, offers all a chance for deep reflection, on the virtues of great love, sacrifice and undying hope.

The NLC used the statement to urge Nigerian workers, indeed all Nigerians, to imbibe the virtues of Easter, through the manifestation of the spirit of love, forgiveness, sacrifice, hope and sincerity.

The NLC says it owes a moral obligation to continually remind the government of its duties and obligations to the people, but it will also sensitise the people to their rights.

The NLC urged Christians and their neighbours to celebrate Easter in peace.
