In Cross River State, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have described the suspended planned nationwide strike and protest that was to commence this Monday as unfortunate, as workers in the state were ready for the showdown.
The planned nationwide total strike over the recent hike in electricity tariff and petrol pump price was suspended by the national body of the organised labour.
Speaking in Calabar on Monday, the Chairman of NLC, Comrade Ben Ukpebi and his TUC counterpart, Monday Ogbodum, said the yearnings of the people to press home their demands over insensitivity of government at various levels have been shelved by the National Secretariat of the Union.

Some residents in Calabar have however expressed mixed feelings over the suspension of the strike by the organized labour.
The Union while begging the workers to show understanding, assured that they will get back to them within two weeks, as agreed with the federal government.
