The Nigeria Medical Association NMA,has cautioned the Cross River State Government against it’s planned Resumption of Schools next week.
In a release rejecting the opening of the Schools on Tuesday, signed by the State Chairman, Dr Agam Ayuk and the Secretary, Dr Ezoke Epoke in Calabar, the NMA said that the medical community saw no evidence to ascertain the actual COVID-19 status and disease burden in the state due to the “unacceptable” low level of tests.
The Association maintained that the quick resumption of schools, inspite the genuine reasons given by Government, has the potential of significant disease outbreak among students in Cross River State.
In the interim the State NMA called for the adoption of educational technologies to provide remote learning opportunities and educational programmes for students in public schools.

The release stated that the technology currently being implemented by the private schools, should be encouraged until a national policy is introduced on the unified resumption of schools by the Federal Government.
Cross River State Government had announced plan to open three public schools in each of the three Senatorial Districts across the state on June 16.
