The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Regulatory Authority, (NMDPRA), has responded to allegations by Dangote oil refinery, saying that no ‘dirty fuel’ is being imported into the country.

The authority says it is working to ensure that the sulphur content of imported products is well below the 50 parts per million regulatory allowance.

Speaking with Energy Correspondents in Abuja on Tuesday, at the Agency’s Headquarters, the Executive Director, Ogbugo Ukoha, emphasised strict monitoring of compliance with PPM regulations by all importers and refiners.

The authority assured Nigerians that the products in the market were safe for consumption.

Similarly, the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria, (DAPPMAN), has denied importing ‘dirty fuel’, saying that the diesel from Dangote refinery contains higher sulphur levels than imported fuel.

The Secretary of DAPPMAN, Olufemi Adewole, clarified that no member has imported fuel outside of regulatory specifications approved by NMDPRA.
