Former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, alongside the University of Nigeria Nsukka and other defendants, are exploring an out-of-court settlement in a lawsuit seeking to block the release of his academic records.
During proceedings on Monday, Nnaji’s lawyer informed the court that discussions were underway to resolve the matter amicably and requested for more time.
While counsel for the Minister of Education and the National Universities Commission said they were only just informed, they did not oppose the adjournment.
Lawyers representing UNN and its officials also confirmed awareness of the talks and expressed openness to settlement, though they asked the court to consider pending applications if negotiations fail.
Trial judge, Hauwa Yilwa, declined to hear any applications for now, stating they would only be addressed if settlement efforts collapse.
The matter was adjourned to 8th July.
In the suit, Nnaji is seeking court orders to prevent interference with his academic records and to compel the release of his transcript.
However, UNN and its officials have challenged the case, arguing it was filed improperly, outside the allowed timeframe, and falls outside the court’s jurisdiction.
They also maintain that no actual denial of records or rights violation has occurred.
The case stems from allegations that Nnaji forged his degree and NYSC certificates, claims which led to his resignation shortly after publication.
