Leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu has apologized for his outburst and verbal attack on Justice Binta Nyako
Kanu had protested the return of his case file to Justice Nyako on grounds that the judge had earlier recused herself from the matter.
His case is now before a new judge, Justice James Omotosho, with former Attorney General of the Federation Kanu Agabi taking over Kanu’s defence
Speaking through his lawyer, Kanu said he was sorry for his actions which was borne out of anger and frustration, a plea that was welcomed by the prosecution team led by Adegboyega Awomolo
Justice Omotosho also acknowledged Kanu’s contriteness, noting that while reviewing his case filed, he realized that his trial has stretched for 10 years after his first arraignment in 2015.
Kanu is being charged for treason and the court has indicated it will fast track the trial after granting accelerated hearing on the matter.
Full trial has been fixed for April 29, May 2 and 6, 2025
