The trial of the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, continued on Wednesday with the prosecution tendering key exhibit, a petition allegedly authored by the former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami and addressed to the Department of State Services, linking the defendant to acts of terrorism.
The witness with pseudo name BBB led by the prosecution counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo, in evidence noted that the letter accused Kanu of terrorism, murder, and incitement to violence against Nigerian security agencies.
The document, dated June 17, 2021, was admitted into evidence and marked as Exhibit PWF, following no objection by the defence team led by Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN.
The witness read from the petition, which alleged that Kanu, through various broadcasts, incited attacks on police and military personnel, resulting in killings, arson, and the destruction of public institutions including police stations and correctional centres.
The petition also cited a series of violent incidents attributed to the IPOB leader’s directives, stating they constituted a serious threat to national security.
The prosecution also presented to the court Kanu’s written statement to the DSS, dated July 17, 2021, in which he declined to make a fresh written submission, stating he had already said all that is required about the allegations, which was admitted in evidence.

Awomolo further led the witness to identify a flash drive allegedly containing Kanu’s broadcasts, which the court admitted along with its accompanying certificate of compliance respectively, despite the objection from the defence counsel.
In one of the video clips played in court, reportedly recorded on December 12, Kanu is heard addressing followers from “the blessed land of Biafra.”
The flash drive was played in court and it was a video broadcast made on 12 December 2020 at about 7pm Nigerian time.
A few of many things Nnamdi Kanu said are ;
- We can never surrender our land to any janjaweed.
- The announcement of the establishment of ESN, a step he ( (Kanu ) had to take because of the failure of the South East Governors to proactive.
- Any attempt by the Zoo army to kill any Biafran will be reciprocated
- We have coward, spineless, Lilly-livered men as Governors
- ESN is to combat the excesses of the vagabonds that attack us from across the Sahel
- ESN is not the Biafran army, just a security outfit similar to Amotekun in Yoruba land
- No governor in the southeast and south-south has the courage to defend our people because they are beholden to the caliphate, therefore IPOb must rise and protect our people
- The death of any Biafran will be avenged. If you kill any Biafran you must be killed
More video evidence is currently being played in the court.
