Few hours after the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) announced that it was hiring, its website could not be accessible, in what many feared was a possible crash due to the influx of job applicants trying to access its career portal.

The news of job openings went viral shortly after it was made public early hours on Friday, with many Nigerians visiting the site to submit their resumes and cover letters.

However, the volume of traffic appeared too much for the website and within minutes, the site slowed to a crawl, and eventually was inaccessible.

Applicants took to social media to express their frustrations, with many tweeting about their inability to access the portal.

“I’ve been trying to apply for the NNPC job for hours, but the website won’t load,” wrote one Twitter user. “This is so disappointing!”

NNPC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Femi Soneye apologized for the technical issues and promised the problem will be resolved as soon as possible.

He said the digital experts were “working to upgrade our server capacity to accommodate the high volume of applications

“We understand the importance of this opportunity for Nigerians and we are committed to making the application process as smooth as possible.”

Despite the setback, many Nigerians remained optimistic about their chances of landing a job with NNPC.

“I’ll keep trying until I succeed,” said one determined applicant. “I know that working for NNPC will be a dream come true.”

After repeated checks, AIT News could confirm that the website was restored on Friday afternoon and its career portal is live and running.
