The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP has described the increasing rate of poverty in the country as unacceptable, and called on the government to reset its policies and programmes to address the situation.
In a statement to mark the 2024 International Day for the eradication of poverty, the national publicity secretary, Ladipo Johnson said that based on recent economic realities, poverty index has worsened under the Tinubu administration as more people are now passing through harrowing economic conditions that show clear signals of abject poverty.

He said contrary to the professed ideals of the government’s reform agenda, policies have so far proved otherwise and the future looks bleak.
Nnpp said strategic and workable steps are imperative to maintain peace and stability in the country.
