Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo has appointed renowned Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson-Okojie, as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy.
The appointment was announced in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor.
According to the statement, Johnson-Okojie is an accomplished actress, producer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, widely regarded as one of Nollywood’s most celebrated figures. With a career spanning nearly two decades and over 200 film appearances, she has received multiple awards and nominations, including recognition at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
Beyond her achievements in the entertainment industry, she is also known for her humanitarian efforts. Through the Mercy Johnson-Okojie Foundation, she has led initiatives focused on women empowerment, child welfare, education support, and healthcare outreach, promoting civic responsibility and community development.
In her new role, Johnson-Okojie is expected to leverage her widespread public appeal and communication expertise to strengthen citizens’ engagement with government policies and programmes across Edo State, the statement noted.
The appointment underscores Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to tapping into the experience, credibility, and goodwill of distinguished Nigerians in advancing his administration’s vision for a prosperous and united Edo State.
