Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima says, the North East Development Commission, NEDC, is a critical engine, driving the development of the North-East geo-political zone.

He was speaking at the foundation laying of the Commission’s head office in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital which cost of construction is pur at N26.8 billion. He says the project does not only bring the Commission closer to the people, but invites them to be first-row stakeholders, in the implementation of programmes, aimed at economic revitalisation.

“This new head office shall serve as a hub of innovation and a centre for strategic planning that guides the North-East towards a brighter future.

According to the Commission’s Managing Director, Mohammed Alkali, Section 9, Sub-section 1, of the NEDC Act, provides that, “The Commission shall have its head office in Maiduguri, Borno State, and shall establish an office, in each member-state of the North-East Zone. Therefore, the foundation laying ceremony we are about to witness is in fulfilment of the law establishing the Commission.”
