The Convener of the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, Professor Ango Abdullahi says the North will stand by the decision of the 10th National Assembly to elect its leaders without external interference.
The former University Don who was speaking at a media briefing in Abuja on Saturday, said the National Assembly should be accorded its independence as stipulated by the Constitution to produce its leadership.

While many believe that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC leadership is working for anointed candidates, the Northern Elders Forum, said they stand with an open free and fair election that will produce a leader who will do the right thing
The Leader of the Forum, Professor Ango Abdullahi, also warned Nigerians against the politics of religion, that is creeping into the country’s political space.
There have been intense campaigns by Senators and members of Representatives -elect on who becomes the principal officers of the 10th National Assembly, with ethnicity and religion shaping the political debate.
