Northern Governors say the region cannot afford political distractions as insecurity worsens across several states.
They made the declaration in Kaduna during a crucial meeting of the Northern Governors’ Forum, stressing the need for urgent and united action.
It is the final meeting of the Northern Governors’ Forum for the year, and topping the agenda were the almajiri system and the rising number of out-of-school children, issues the Governors insist must be addressed decisively to break the cycle of poverty and insecurity in the North.
Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya, expressed solidarity with the people of Kwara, Kogi, Kebbi, Niger, and Sokoto States affected by recent bandit attacks.

He described assaults on schools as direct attacks on the future of Northern Nigeria, warning that with the region’s current challenges, this is not the time for politicking.
Host Governor, Uba Sani said Nigeria’s centralised policing model can no longer meet the security demands of present realities.
He assured that Northern Governors are not complacent and are committed to tackling insecurity with renewed vigour.
The Forum resolved that restoring peace, prosperity, and stability in the North will require sustained investment in human capital development, critical infrastructure, and expanded socio-economic opportunities for millions of young people.
