The Northern Senators Forum (NSF) has strongly condemned the brutal killing of innocent travellers in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The victims, who were travelling in an 18-seater bus from the Basawa community in Zaria, Kaduna State to Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State, were ambushed and killed on Friday in what the Forum described as a barbaric and cowardly act.

In a statement signed by the Forum’s Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Yaradua, the lawmakers said the attack was senseless and unacceptable, emphasizing that such violence has no place in a civilized society.

He warned that the continued killings pose a serious threat to Nigeria’s national unity and social fabric.

Yaradua, who also chairs the Senate Committee on Army, called on the Nigeria Police Force to enhance its intelligence gathering capabilities in order to prevent and respond effectively to such heinous crimes.

He further urged the Federal Government to provide security agencies with modern communication tools to track and apprehend criminal elements plotting attacks.

The senator appealed to communities across the affected areas to remain calm and law-abiding, and to resist the urge to launch reprisal attacks that could worsen the situation.

He also called on the Plateau State Government to intensify its efforts to promote peaceful coexistence among the various ethnic and religious groups in the state to prevent a future occurrence.

The Northern Senators Forum reaffirmed its solidarity with the victims’ families and all affected communities, pledging to work closely with relevant authorities to ensure justice is served and to help forestall a repeat of such tragedy.
