Lawmakers from states in Northern Nigeria have called on President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government to effectively tackle the issue of insecurity in the region ahead of 2023 general elections.
The State legislators said the safety of lives and property in the region must be given priority to guard against low turnout of voters during the polls.
The lawmakers gave the advice during the Northern Legislators meeting in Abuja to chat aimed at finding lasting solutions to worsening insecurity across the country.
About 200 State legislators were present at the meeting in Abuja.

They called for the establishment of State Police force and local vigilance groups to assist in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria.
The lawmakers also urged the youths not to allow desperate politicians to use them as tools of destruction.
The state Lawmakers condemned in its totality the recent killings of over 80 persons in plateau, Zamfara and other parts of the region.
