The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has imposed heavy sanctions on El-Kanemi Warriors following security breaches during their Matchday 34 fixture against Ikorodu City in Maiduguri.
In a Summary Jurisdiction notice issued by the league body, El-Kanemi Warriors were charged with violations of Rules of the NPFL Framework These charges stem from incidents involving crowd trouble and inadequate security measures before and after the match.
Therefore a fine of ₦1 million was imposed for the club’s failure to provide adequate and effective security, which led to unauthorized individuals accessing restricted areas and harassing match officials.
Another ₦1 million fine was levied due to the misconduct of the club’s supporters, who threw objects onto the field of play.
An additional ₦1 million fine was issued for failing to control supporters, whose actions resulted in damage to the Ikorodu City team vehicle.
The club is also required to pay ₦500,000 as compensation to Ikorodu City for the damages incurred.
Furthermore, El-Kanemi Warriors have been ordered to play the remainder of their home games this season behind closed doors, with no fans allowed in the stadium.
In addition to the monetary fines and stadium sanctions, the club has been directed to develop and submit a revised matchday security and crowd control framework to the NPFL within seven working days of the notice.
As stipulated under Rule C26, El-Kanemi Warriors must respond in writing to either accept the ruling or elect to appear before a disciplinary panel.
