There are plans in Nigeria’s 36 states to rejig the security architecture following fears of security breach as planned “protest against hunger” gathers momentum.

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum at a meeting that ended at about 3am on Thursday said they have also received assurances from the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu on ways to curb the imminent mass action.

While government continously pleads for patience of Nigerians to tackle the biting economic hardship, a section of the populace is insisting on the protest to register its dissatisfaction with the soaring inflation in the country.

A communique issued by the Forum after its meeting on Thursday stated that it received briefing from the National Security Adviser with the assurance that his office will collaborate with the Governors to enhance security of lives and property at the sub-national level.

The Supreme Court ruling on the financial autonomy of local governments was also reviewed by the Governors at the meeting.

The communique signed by the NGF Chairman, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State stated that it received briefing from the Attorneys-General of the 36 states of the Federation.

The communique was however silent on the content or recommendations of the chief legal officers of the states to the Governors.

Meanwhile, the Progressive Governors Forum of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC has joined Nigerians called on promoters of the planned nationwide protest against hunger to shelve the idea in the interest of national peace and stability.

Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma made the call after a meeting of the Forum in Abuja.
