Operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Zamfara State have raided two mining sites and apprehended ten illegal miners, at Matuzi and Tungabai communities, in Talata Marafa Local Government Area.

The Public Relations Officer in the state, Ikor Oche who addressed journalists said there were complaints that some elements were still involved in illegal mining in the area, despite the Federal Government ban.

The NSCDC operatives also confiscated eight motorcycles, 9 bags of precious stones, and several tools, including one dane gun, which a local security outfit used to guard them.

The NSCDC has warned those engaging in illegal mining in Zamfara State, to desist from the unlawful act, as it would not spare anyone found culpable.

One of the illegal miners claimed that they had no option but engaged in mining because there was no work from which to feed their families.

Two operatives of the corps were attacked during the operation and were left with injuries.
