The Akwa Ibom State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps , NSCDC is to begin an aggressive clampdown on activities of illegal miners in Akwa Ibom state.
State Commandant of the Corps, Eluyemi Eluwade made this known in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital.
Eluwade pointed out the need for more miners to obtain licenses and that the recently established mining marshals would help curb the illegal act.

It is expected that with the clampdown, the number of miners in the state operating without licenses would reduce drastically.
